From there, Spain went down hill. Just minutes away from the second half, Robin Van Persie got away on Sergio Ramos, and scored a diving header. Casillas didn't even try to stop it, and watched as the ball sailed over his head. The half time score was 1-1.
In the second half, things got worse. About five minutes in, some great skill from Robben, and Spain were down 2-1.
It didn't stop there. Iker Casillas called for a pass from one of his defenders. He sloppely controlled it, right to the feet of Robin Van Persie. Persie Stripped the ball of Casillas, and tapped it in on the empty net.
At this point, Spain thought they were done for. But it didn't stop. Arjen Robben made a mockery of the defence, and the keeper, and scored his second goal.
There was another goal for the Dutch, but it was unimportant, so I chose not to right about it.
A few days after this smashing defeat, Spain had one more chance, against Chile. It was a 2-0 loss for the Red Fury. And that was it. Spain were out of the World Cup.
Many people are saying the age of the Spanish os over, but I think not. I think Spain lost because of a error by Del Bosque, there coach. He chose to keep players who were getting a bit to old, and didn't embrace Spain's younger side. Xabi Alonso was most likely to tired from the Champions League run, and he should have been dropped for someone younger, like Isco. Juan Mata had a terrible season at Chelsea, and he was sold in January to Manchester United. He did even worse there. I think he should have been dropped for Bojan, or Deulofeu. The oldies lost the tournament for Spain. And finally, lets not forget Diego Costa. The young man had a amazing season at Atletico Madrid, and was picked for the Spanish National Team. Starting him was a big mistake. He has only played 2 friendlies for Spain, and has only attended 17 training sessions. I don't think he was ready to start in a tournament such as this. David Villa, who is Spain's all time leading scorer never left the bench in either World Cup games. I think Del Bosque should have started Villa or Torres, and trained Costa. Costa may have been ready for the next round, or for Euro 2016.
And finally, I don't think the age of Spain has ended. In the 2006 World Cup, Italy won. But in 2010, Italy were out in the grow stage. The same has happened to Spain. Italy have bounced back, and are now once again one of the best teams in the world. I think if Del Bosque embraces the young talent Spain has, Spain will have a shot at winning Euro 2016.
